ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:

Fort Rupert Elementary School is located between the Kwakiutl community also known as Fort Rupert village and the small communities near Storey’s Beach and the Port Hardy Airport. It is a picturesque site with beautiful views of the ocean and backed by parks and forest, and is recognized as having the most beautiful location in the district. Our school has been open since 1964, and has a long history of serving the families in the local area.

We currently have four split-grade classes from Kindergarten to Grade 7 which allows us to offer a learning environment that is focused on the individual needs of each student and their strengths. We pride ourselves on the caring, family and community atmosphere in the school. The PACĀ at this school is very active and involved. They work hard to make sure that all students are equipped with the essential tools for learning. PAC runs a daily breakfast club and assists in funding for transportation to and from swimming and other events, and organizes book fairs and social evenings for the school community.

The Kwakiutl Band Band Council is also very active and supportive of our school. We have excellent on-going communication and many relationships with the Kwakiutl community as they support our students to participate in annual swimming lessons, ski trips, school photos, student lunch program and the annual camping trip for grade 6 and 7’s. All students in the school participate in the Kwak’wala Language and Cultural Program where they have the opportunity to learn some Kwak’wala language and also about the history and traditions of the Kwakwaka’wakw peoples.
